Sometimes customers inspire the best ideas...a little wedding dance dress to slip into after the big bash. Something still bridal but casual enough to continue partying or just hanging out. Kate's idea came from a picture of a 1950's strapless slip with a tulle petticoat. Sketching ensued.
The lightbulb popped when Kate turned and saw an ivory silk crepe de chine camisole made with my great grandmother's vintage lace on Coco (my mannequin). That was that. A little vintage, a lot girly, a mix of retro silk, taffeta, point d' esprit and French rhinestones. Well I really liked Kate right away but I was reluctant to give up some of my Nana's lace stash. Off to Lacis in Berkeley to find a similar French cotton insertions lace circa 1900. I used two layers of vintage silk charmeuse for the top and attached a vintage silk taffeta quarter circle skirt. We changed the design a bit by adding the lace straps and moved the flowers from the hip to one shoulder. The tulle overskirt is comprised of three layers plus a top layer of
point d' esprit.
A big satin bow finishes the back and handmade satin and taffeta flowers with vintage rhinestone centers adorn the front.
Big darts on the camilsole are zig-zag stitched down to create a vintage slip feel. I had to shir tulle under the vintage lace straps for strength.
Voila! Time to dance......
